Streaming directly from a phone or webcam?

Fits Your YouTube Live Canvas

Your broadcasting app combines the scorebug with the video. For a 1920 × 1080 broadcast, the scoreboard can occupy just one corner; its browser source does not need to fill the entire video frame.

1. Copy the overlay URL

In your board’s admin panel, scroll below scoring and appearance settings. Click Scorebug beside Publish. The starter above opens this dialog for you.

Choose Background → Transparent, then Copy URL at the bottom. Use the Embed URL containing /embed/. Keep the admin link for scoring.

2. Add a Browser source

In OBS, choose your game scene, then Sources → + → Browser. Name it “Game score”, leave Local file off and paste your overlay URL.

Start at 800 × 240 for this compact basketball example. Increase the source height for a vertical layout. Put it above your camera in the source list, then resize and position it in a clear part of your video.

The source dimensions control the webpage’s space, not your stream resolution. See our OBS setup, Streamlabs Desktop setup or the official OBS Browser source settings.

3. Connect your YouTube broadcast

In YouTube Studio, use Create → Go live and open Stream. For a rehearsal, choose Unlisted visibility before sending video.

Connect your broadcasting app to YouTube through its streaming settings. If you use a stream key, it goes there; the ScoreKeeperCo overlay URL stays in the Browser source.

Follow YouTube’s encoder instructions for immediate or scheduled streams. First-time live activation may take up to 24 hours, so check it before game day.

4. Check what your audience will see

Open the test broadcast’s YouTube watch page on another device. Add one point in ScoreKeeperCo, wait for it to appear in the video, then correct it. Check the team names and clock at phone size, and switch through your game scenes.

Use the live playback position when comparing scores. If the local overlay changes but YouTube is behind, check playback and latency before changing the scoreboard. End the rehearsal and restore your intended scores before the real game.

Update Scores From the Sideline

Keep the board’s admin page open on a phone and enter results as the game happens. Your broadcasting app keeps the camera and overlay running.

Score from multiple devices

Give the admin link to your scorekeeper; it allows editing. They can use a phone, tablet or another computer without access to your YouTube channel or stream key. Keep the read-only overlay URL in your broadcasting app.

Both devices need internet. Saved scores sync without a manual refresh. Someone still needs to enter points and operate the game clock; this is not an automatic sports-results feed.

If the overlay doesn’t look right

The background is solid instead of transparent

Choose Transparent in the Scorebug dialog and copy the updated Embed URL into your Browser source. Check that you are showing that source over your camera, rather than screen-sharing the whole admin page.

The overlay is cut off or covers the action

Increase the source’s Width or Height if information is clipped, then scale the whole graphic within your scene. A 1080p video does not require a 1080px-tall scorebug. Test the names, clock and game fields you will actually use.

The score is current locally but late on YouTube

Check that playback is at the live position. YouTube’s latency options trade delay against buffering tolerance; they do not guarantee identical timing for every viewer. Read YouTube’s latency guide before changing your broadcast settings.

The score is also stuck in the broadcasting app

Look for a save error in the admin panel. Open the overlay URL in a separate browser and check both devices’ internet connections. If that view is current, check the URL in your broadcasting app and refresh its Browser source.

Broadcast Styles for Any Channel

Choose Broadcast, Minimal, Classic or Vertical in the starter. The Scorebug dialog calls Broadcast “ESPN”. Clock, period and other game fields depend on the sport and style; compare the actual scorebug examples.

Stream clean: remove the watermark

Free published overlays include “ScoreKeeperCo”. Paid plans can remove it and add custom team colors and logos. The Pro preview toggle changes only the preview, not your free board’s published overlay. See Pro pricing for current passes, subscriptions and limits.

If you change the style, background or corner, copy the updated URL into your broadcasting app. Score changes continue through the existing URL.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add a scoreboard overlay to YouTube Live?

Create a board, open Scorebug in its admin panel, choose Transparent and click Copy URL. Add that Embed URL as a Browser source in OBS or another broadcasting app with web-overlay support. Position it over your camera, then send that scene to YouTube using the app’s streaming connection. This setup requires an overlay-capable broadcasting app; do not assume every phone app or hardware encoder can load the URL.

Is the YouTube Live scoreboard overlay free?

Does the overlay support a transparent background for YouTube Live?

Yes. Choose Background → Transparent in the Scorebug dialog and copy its Embed URL into your broadcasting app’s browser source. Your app combines the score graphic with the camera video before sending it to YouTube. Green (Chroma) is also available if your production needs keying; the green background still needs to be removed in your broadcasting software.

Why does the score on screen lag a few seconds behind the real game?

Check where the delay starts. If the overlay in your broadcasting app is stale, check the score’s save status and both devices’ internet connections. If that overlay is current but the YouTube video is behind, check the stream’s latency settings and playback position. Delay varies; ScoreKeeperCo does not guarantee instant delivery or a fixed number of seconds to every viewer.

Can I update the score without stopping the YouTube Live stream?

Yes. Keep the board’s admin page open on a phone or another browser and enter scores while your broadcasting app continues streaming. The overlay displays saved updates without a manual refresh. Changing overlay style, background or position settings can change its URL, so copy the updated URL into your source when you change those settings.
