How to use this volleyball score sheet

Before the match

Choose best of three or five and your paper size. Optionally add team names and set 1 jersey numbers. Fill in a fresh starting lineup for each later set.

During each set

Mark a box for each point. Use the extra-points line if play continues past the numbered boxes, then write both final scores. Mark timeouts and add substitution notes below.

At the end

Copy final scores into the match summary and count sets won. The first team to win three sets wins this format.

Check your competition rules

This is a simple match record for six-player volleyball. Substitution, libero and timeout rules can vary. Use your competition’s required scoresheet or libero tracker when an official record is needed.

Recording a volleyball match on paper

Keep the sheet beside the court and mark points as rallies finish. Record the starting jersey numbers for each set, then write final scores in the match summary. The home and away labels stay consistent throughout the sheet even when teams change court ends. The notes under each set are for brief substitutions or other reminders; use an additional log when you need more detail.

Rally scoring and the deciding set

Rally scoring awards a point on each rally. A regular indoor set has a 25-point target, and the deciding set has a 15-point target; each needs a two-point lead. The sheet’s extra boxes and writing line let you continue recording an extended set. Check the FIVB overview of volleyball and your competition’s rules for the format you are playing.

Lineups, substitutions and libero notes

Record starting positions I–VI separately for each set. The sheet provides a libero-number space and short substitution notes, but does not enforce substitution limits or track every service turn and libero replacement. Those requirements depend on the competition. For spectators, a separate volleyball scoreboard online provides a live score display alongside your paper record.
